iSkin: Protecting the Products we Love

iskin.jpg

Recently, I received a box in the mail with a few iSkin products to play with. It’s been a few days or so now so I figured it was time for me to post my thoughts on the ones I got to experiment with. All in all, I am very impressed with most of the products I have seen over at iskin.com. I have some thoughts based on my personal usage, but for the most part, I think they have got a cool thing going on over there. Here’s what I played with:iSkin Keyboard Protection for MacBook Pro

I was impressed with the usefulness of the keyboard protector. I have seen these types of gadgets in years past and have not liked the look of them at all. The iSkin was easy to apply and actually stayed on very nicely (to my surprise). It was very easy to clean and did a masterful job of keeping the funk out of my keybpard. However… I didn’t like the decreased visibility of the keys. I’m not a trained typist so I have to actually look at the keyboard when I type. After applying the protector, I had to either be right on top of the keyboard (which was difficult when not sitting at a table) or have the backlight turned on (which wasn’t too nifty when running on battery power due to the extra drain). I have to give the iSkin keyboard protector a 50/50 usefulness rating for me. For you though, it may very likely be different. It seems I might have some unique quirks that others don’t tend to share so I’ll leave the final decision up to you for yourself.

iSkin DuoBand for iPod Nano

overview_main.png

The DuoBand is impressive to say the least. Not only is it incredibly lightweight, but they have really gone out of their way to make this arm band for the iPod Nano just outstanding. The inner silicone layer is a great shock absorber as well as a dust and moisture repellant. Then it’s topped off with an aluminum outer face plate that protects from impact. I was very impressed as well with the arm band and it’s breathability. There are so many other workout bands out there that just turn into sweat magnets. This is frustrating because the things start to stink to high heaven in no time (at least they do with me anyway). This iSkin band doesn’t nearly have as much of a problem there because of it’s band. All in all, this is a great product and I am glad to have one.
