Ask iBAM: Mail Keeps the BeachBall Spinning
The latest e-mail the “Ask iBam” crew received is from kc.
My pinwheel spins in Mail only, non stop. Almost everytime I open Mail.
This happened on my old mac. I just got a new one and transferred all theinformation and the spining wheel wont stop in mail. I have to force quit mail about 30 times a day.
Any sugggestions?
After some discussions the crew thought there could be several reasons behind this, but they came up with the most logical solution to get Mail working again.
Spencer Scott thought the best solution would be to create a new preference file for Mail:
My first guess since he states it happened on his old and new Mac, is that he is having an issue with a corrupt preference file in Mail that was transferred over. My suggest would be to have Mail create a new preference file.
- First you should make a backup copy of ~/Library/Mail. Also make note of any specific mail settings such as port numbers, etc. that you may need to remember later if necessary. Now make sure Mail is completely shut down.
- Go to the directory below and move this file to the desktop.
- ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
- Restart Mail, and you might have to reconfigure the mail accounts again, but this will create a new preference file which should you a fresh start. If that does solve the problem then you can delete the preferences file on the desktop.
Let us know how this works out, and as always, if you continue to have issues it would be best to visit your local Apple Store and setup an appointment at the Genius Bar.
