Ask iBam: Best iPhone 1.0 Sales Tips

1419 days ago in Ask iBAM by Brent | 8 Comments

Let’s discuss…

Do you have an iPhone 1.0 and wanna get the new one?

I know I sit in that category and I am trying to figure out what to do with my 1.0. I’m sure I can sell it here of via eBay, but the bigger question for me is what in the heck to sell it for? My first thought is maybe half of the new one’s pricing ($100). But do you think I could get $150? And what would people pay extra people pay for the official ‘iBoughtAn’ iPhone? (haha, kidding! no I’m not… seriously though, yes I am!) … haha

I would love your thoughts, as I’m sure the rest of the readers would as well. Open up the discussion. What’s a good quality, great shape iPhone 1.0 worth now?

I don't know i looking to get on but the new one is only $200 which poses a problem for thous trying to sell there old one. one you payed a lot and it would suck to only get like $100 for it at that point its almost worth giving it away!! 2 if your a new customer without a iphone plan already you have to pay for the 3g plan and you dont have a phone that can utilize it!!

I would def say $100 is a good price for them…but is that a subsidized price for using it on att? if not it maybe more than if they don't sign up for att :)

I am not sure what they are really worth, but I have just sold my 8GB locally here in Florida for $250. Its in excellent condition with an invisibleshield screen cover.

It was sold to someone who made me an offer for what they thought it was worth, and the condition of the sale was that I restore it, and keep it at 1.1.4 and unlock it for use on T-Mobile.

I also promised to unlock it again when/if the 2.0 software is hacked.

I think you're forgetting the whole purpose of selling on eBay. Set a bare minimum you would be willing to accept, add in the eBay commissions, and put it up for auction with those figures as your minimum starting bid. There's no better way to find out the market price of something than by asking your customers!

I think it's all in the timing… People still want an unlocked and jailbroken original iPhone. There will most likely be a brief amount of time that you can still sell them for a good price because of the fact that they don't produce them anymore and the new ones will need to be activated at the store, not to mention how long it will take for them to hack 2.0. I indend on unlocking and jailbreaking with ZiPhone and listing it.

I just test posted one with the unlock software enabled and it seems to be doing well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&r…
