Also, do you think that this is what Apple was trying to do with the iPhone Web Apps? Trying to create a rich, online experience - with everything you need. Personally, I think they jumped the gun on that, and we need both to survive. I definitely don't see web apps dying off soon.... at least I hope not.

I think MobileMe has so much potential, and we are just barely seeing what it is capable of. In a way, MobileMe reminds me of the iPhone. Essentially, MobileMe could become a whole platform by itself. where everyone signs into MobileMe, and can access everything. Complete with rich applications powered by Apple's SproutCore technology.

Apple is known to create something, with endless possibilities, and yet consumers may not see the full potential. Let's look at iTunes, at first release iTunes organized your music, then you could buy music. Today it has evolved into a media powerhouse, selling 5 billion songs, the largest podcast directory, with movie rentals, iTunes U, TV Shows, iPod games, and soon iPhone Apps. While, back when it was first introduced, nobody really saw what was coming. I think MobileMe is the same way.

The only thing I'd like to see is an SDK for MobileMe, for developers to create rich applications for MobileMe. Take for instance your favorite Mac Apps being ported over to Mobileme, such as 1Password, or Bento. I'd absolutely love to be able to access my data on these applications through mobileme.

I'm not sure if I like the argument "exchange for the rest of us", because to me this is so much more than push email, contacts, and calendar.

You even see Apple moving towards this online experience through their recent hardware releases. If you look at the Macbook Air, it is completley dubbed as "Wireless" and is built perfect for the internet. The AppleTV now no longer requires a computer, and is totally wireless - downloading movies off the internet. Also, all of their Macs have built in Wireless internet - and of course we all know how much the iPhone has revolutionized mobile internet browsing.

My final argument that this is a platform, is the fact that each of the "web-applications" have an iPhone-like icon, with room for more - just like the iPhone.

It really amazes me how Apple silently puts all the pieces together. While other competitors *ahem MICROSOFT* are struggling with how to be successful at moving everything online, Apple has snuck it right in. Apple has been prepping their hardware, and are now introducing the service to wirelessly tie all of their hardware together and connect to the internet. This really is the future.

I'm very curious about it, since I too am already a .mac subscriber for the synching purpose. Currently .mac does not sync very well between my work and home Mac, phone and iPod Touch. Hopefully the "cloud" will do a much better job of keeping everything together without me having to THINK to sync.

I've had .mac since it was iTools in 2001. I've waited SEVEN YEARS for some kind of phone/mac/organizer information and now I finally have it. If only I could use a different email, I'd be happy. right now I have everything running through gmail.

MobileMe looks pretty good, definitely a lot better then the current .Mac. We'll see how it actually turns out though.

I'm going to give it a shot. I love GMail, but it's far from perfect, and to me it really hasn't changed a lot since it launched. I also partly want to go back to using a desktop e-mail client. I think this might be an improvement over what I've got now.

I'm also curious what kind of web apps Apple will produce. They have some of the most talented programmers and designers in the world, but up until now, we haven't seen them try their hand at the kind of web apps Google and Yahoo! are known for.

Well I have had .Mac for a while now. Within the first month it turned out to be largely useless. It eventually became useful in 2008, however, with the Back To My Mac addition in Leopard. The BTMM feature does a little bit of what MobileMe is going to do. It kept my work mac and my personal mac calendars, mail, and contacts synced--same on my iPhone minus wireless updates of my iPhone calendar--but that was it. Just as I was beginning to formulate what was lacking in BTMM the WWDC keynote came along. So I'm happy with the fact that I can now stay synced no matter what platform I'm on. The fact that Windows has been integrated is just marvelous. I love this and I am very excited!
