Review: Temporis

When given the opportunity to review Temporis from Bartas Technologies, I was excited, but a bit reserved as I have never used an application to create a graphical timeline, nor have I really had the need to create a timeline. Well believe it or not, the day after I downloaded Temporis, one of my daughters had a school project due, and one of the things she had to do was create a timeline for a States project. Perfect timing!

Once all the data was compiled it was time we fired Temporis up and got to work. You start out with a default timeline, but this is completely adjustable and you can choose a Calendrical or Sequential type timeline depending on what you need to work with. We chose a traditional looking timeline setup where we could enter historical information for the given State.

The Properties menu located in the sidebar has many options that gives you the freedom to configure your timeline to exact specifications. Colors, fonts, date formats, and interval appearance are just some of
the options available to customize your timeline. Entering the data was simply a matter of “drawing” the data in place and using the Inspector to adjust dates, fonts, etc. Once all your data is entered into the timeline, you can arrange it to the desired location, or you can let Temporis take over with the auto-arrange function.

The timeline itself is now done, so we have a few choices of how we want to present our timeline. Aside from printing, you can export the timeline as a PDF or TIFF image for various uses such as importing into a word processor. In addition, you also have the option to export the event data as XML or comma-separated value (CSV) files.

The end result was a clean and detailed timeline, and I was very pleased with the ease of which it was created. We used this for a school project, but this application could be used for a variety of projects including web graphics, presentations, and much more. If you have a need to create detailed timelines, then Temporis is a superb solution. Temporis has a free version with limited functionality, and
the unlimited version is just $24.99.
