Printing on a Windows Printer in OS X

Here’s another quickie for the “Ask iBAM” crew out there. This one’s from Bob and he’s trying to print on a shared windows printer from his Mac on his network. Here’s his question:

I’ve tried and tried and tried to print from my macbook through my network to a printer connected to a Windows desktop. It will find it and show it in the printer pane, but wont print to it. Maybe there is a program that simplifies this? Help if you can.

Thanks much,

Bob

I was under the impression that recent versions of OS X did this semi-effortlessly as long as you had Windows sharing turned on in the system prefs. Then all you need to do is browse for the printer and the OS does the rest. However, he seems to have further issues and I don’t have any way to test this so I’m going to rely on those of you out there with previous experience. Any advice for Bob? Post your comments here and as always, thanks in advance!

Keeping Your Mac Cool

Ever find yourself breaking out into a sweat while typing an email or browsing the Internet? I do and it’s not because I live in Arizona (although that does assist). It’s because my “not so laptop friendly laptop” tends to get a little toasty at times. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Mac, but sometimes it gets to thinkin’ too hard and making me sweat because it’s turned itself into an all too efficient lap warmer. Not my favorite use for my Mac, I’ll admit. So what do I do about it, you might ask? (Well, thanks for asking). I use SMC Fan Control for all my laptop cooling needs. (This is starting to sound like an infomercial, I think)

If you follow my Twitter updates, you probably have noticed that I’m not getting too much sleep at night. Well… I figured I would use this time semi-wisely and build a website for Cadie. This morning I have officially launched cadiespore.com. I’m gonna try to lifestream her as much as possible but I’m sure you’ll understand if it’s not 24/7. Follow Cadie on Twitter to know when we’re broadcasting.

Swing by and check it out. Let me know what you think.

MarsEdit 2: A Blogging Revolution

Okay… This is another one of those “I should have known about this already” posts, but now is better than never, right? MarsEdit is an offline blogging tool that really accomplish what it sets out to do. I have tried so many different apps that tout their ease and grace and yet so many times find myself very shortly going back to the basics because it was ultimately easier for me to stick with the default. This time, it’s way different. MarsEdit is my revolution! (or something like that)

Plainly said, MarsEdit is a flat-out awesome way to post to your blog. (Of course I created this post in MarsEdit) There are just so many features and reasons to use it, I don’t know where to start so I’ll just link to Shawn’s perfect post and not even try.

MarsEdit FTW!
