Keeping Your Mac Cool

Ever find yourself breaking out into a sweat while typing an email or browsing the Internet? I do and it’s not because I live in Arizona (although that does assist). It’s because my “not so laptop friendly laptop” tends to get a little toasty at times. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Mac, but sometimes it gets to thinkin’ too hard and making me sweat because it’s turned itself into an all too efficient lap warmer. Not my favorite use for my Mac, I’ll admit. So what do I do about it, you might ask? (Well, thanks for asking). I use SMC Fan Control for all my laptop cooling needs. (This is starting to sound like an infomercial, I think)

ok… Granted, I should have posted about this a long time ago as I use SMC Fan Control all the time to “cool my jets”, but for some reason it has not surfaced until now so, my apologies. Anyway, here’s the skinny:

SMC is a simple little app that loads right into your system tray (Is that what Mac calls it?) and gives you a real-time view of your fan and temp info as well as quick access to it’s settings pane.

(Yes it’s 5:42am, I don’t want to talk about it)

I’m sure, most of you have your own methods for keeping your Mac cool, but this is my main technique. SMC has an exceedingly simple interface and just does what it’s suppose to. You have the ability to create “Favorites” or customized preference settings and save them for future use.

Not a lot to say here, it’s just another one of those essential apps that I use every day. Hope you find it as useful as I do.

Until next time…
