I saw this great post over at lifehacker a few days ago that really talked about all the best ways to stay on top of the new TV season.

I agree that the traditional way of watching television really isnt the best way, and so here are the 5 top ways I can think of.

1) TVEase.net

These guys are really on to something. Its like TiVO on crack. They take the tivo, but add all of your music, your dvd’s, old genesis and NES games, and a web browser (and much more) and roll it all into a killer device. Oh.. and they dont charge a monthly fee! Check them out!

2) iTunes/AppleTV

iTunes sells most of the shows we want, except for some NBC stuff like Heroes. These are all good options, but Heroes is literally one of the only shoes I watch.

3) Amazon’s Unbox/TiVO/DirectTV

Everyone knows TiVO (and the cox, directTV, comcast versions) But with a monthly fee and literally only 2-3 shows I watch, it just doesnt make sense to me. I get all my HDTV with an Over-The-Air TV antenna and avoid all the monthly cable bills.

4) BitTorrent/Democracy/Miro/TIOTI

Basically stealing :) You have to be careful with BitTorrent. I’ve heard of people receiving letters from their ISP. I recommend taking this warning seriously.

5) Joost

Joost is a cross platform (Windows/Mac), freeware television streaming application. There is a decent selection here but still no Heroes, Lost or Rescue Me.

Hope this helps, and may inspire some of you!

I have gone to the TVease website because of this article and they have awesome machines. I have already ordered one.

I did some research at there forums and they seem to have a fierce following with their community. I cant argue with that. The seem to really be behind what TVease is doing. That and the owner/operator/system builder is on their forums 30 times a day if anyone ever has any questions.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention eyeTV, especially since this is a mac blog! I just got one a couple of weeks ago and I’ve got it hooked up to an HD antenna. It’s great!
