Yahoo Mobile For Your iPhone

Yahoo! takes iPhone web Apps up a notch or two with their iPhone interfaces from Yahoo! Mobile. OneSearch, Mail, Finance and Weather apps are just a few of the Yahoo! apps available via the new slick iPhone styled interfaces. Yahoo! oneSearch is easily integrated into your iPhone by setting your default search settings in Safari to “Yahoo!” or you can always access it the old fashioned way by just pointing your iPhone browser to m.yahoo.com where you can also find a host of other iPhone web-based apps. The interface features a bunch of great staple tools for the iPhone user like:

Yahoo! Mobile OnSearch has the ability to find locations by searching and with a touch of your finger, you can connect via voice to the listing’s phone number on your iPhone. OneSearch also categorizes search results into easy to access groups like local businesses, business categories, photos and websites. You can drill down deeper into any of these quick listings with a “flick and a click” on your touch screen. This makes finding information online much easier and more familiar to the iPhone interface user. Don’t get me wrong, I love Google, but Yahoo has really raised the bar here, in my humble opinion.

You can also use your Yahoo! Mail account with your iPhone mail application. Controlled by the standard iPhone mail interface and selected through your mail settings pane. Your Yahoo! mail shows up just like any other email would inside the iPhone mail application. On top of that, you can also sync your Yahoo! contacts with your iPhone contacts. This is done by selecting Yahoo! from the iTunes > Info menu (this menu only shows up in Tunes when you connect your iPhone to iTunes)and you’re all set! Pretty simple, huh?

The standard iPhone Finance module is powered by Yahoo! Finance is top notch. Want to find out what’s driving the performance of a particular stock? Get Yahoo! oneSearch results directly from the stocks widget—find the latest news articles covering the company and industry, product information, websites, images and more. With content and data from over 180 sources, Yahoo! has your financial information needs covered, no matter where you are.

Everyone knows the weather widget both in OS X and on their iPhone and most of you know it’s powered by Yahoo! Weather. Whatever the weather, plan the perfect day with the help of Yahoo! oneSearch. oneSearch provides your own personal guide to what’s happening where you are or where you’re headed. Access city guides, local events, the latest local news and more with just a tap right from your weather forecast on the iPhone.

All in all, Yahoo! has really put out a great (and growing) list of apps that are quickly becoming essential for the everyday iPhone user. Be sure to point your mobile browser to m.yahoo.com to check out all the features. (Being a photo freak myself, I love the flickr integration, but that’s just me.)

Have fun!

I found another cool site for iPhone apps http://www.appsafari.com
  • That's kinda cool. The Yahoo Mail interface might not be that great but it's better than most hosted solutions (ie Squirrel). Does it work in the same manner with Mail or is it purely MobileMail?
  • RE: Yahoo! Push Email

Yup. Signup for a Yahoo! Mail account, enter the information into your iPhone (using the default Yahoo! mail settings) and Boom! — push email! There's nothing special required — it just works.

Though, I hate Yahoo! Mail in general, so I stick with IMAP.
  • I'm not completely sure... Anyone else hear about this? have any info?
  • I've not heard it mentioned since the initial iPhone keynote, but wasn't a free Yahoo Puch IMAP account being given away with every iPhone? I've heard no one mention it and wondered if it actually happened or not.
