WordPress 2.3 – not so smooth

1593 days ago in The Cronicles by Brent | 7 Comments

Well, I’m upgraded to wordpress 2.3 and I lost every image I ever uploaded before today. AWESOME! Looks like the DB tables are all screwed up too, sweet!

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

WordPress database error: [Table 'iboughtamac.wp_post2cat' doesn't exist]

Hopefully that’s all I lost… we’ll see

Sorry everyone!

Did you overwrite the wp-images folder?

the uploads folder, yeah – Totally my mistake, I should have thought about it and it was too late by the time I had done it. I even screwed up my backup so there was no going back. It sucks! Live and learn, I guess

Well, I figured out the DB errors, but the images are not coming back. I have successfully killed them all. Moving on now, I guess. There’s nothing else I can do.

    CRAP!

I was able to pull everything from the last 2 weeks or so out of my trash on my laptop (which wasn’t much at all) but everything I have uploaded to iBAM from before that is completely gone. Sorry guys…

Also, for some reason when I upgraded the DB, the ‘wp_cats’ and ‘wp_post2cat’ tables got wiped out completely. Luckily, I did have the backup of the old DB so restoring them was pretty easy once I figured out what was actually missing.

Everything else seems to be working as far as I can see. Looking back, I sure wish I would have been more careful in backing up. I am kicking myself for missing the uploads folder. A total noob mistake by a non-noob! I totally knew better but in the rush to get iBAM back up, I killed that folder twice never to be seen again.

I really want native tagging, but I’m going to wait until 2.3.1 before upgrading I think. I’ll let everyone else work the bugs out :-)

What do you think of 2.3 so far?

I had the same problem! Except re-importing my db didn’t work – very weird. Trying to get help on their boards, but no one’s responding. Major bummer…

I had to re-import just the sections that were missing through the sql command line interface. I looked in the sql export file I made before the upgrade and found the section I needed. (there’s one that makes the table and one that defines the data in it right below the creation script). Copied the 2 sections and pasted them into the command line box in phpmyadmin. Executed the script and it did it. I had to do it for each table that wasn’t in there.

    Hope that helps
