Airfoil: Send all your audio to AirTunes

I was sitting on my couch listening to last.fm today and thought to myself, “It would sure be cool to use my AirPort Express and AirTunes to hear these tracks over my nice living room stereo”. The only thing I can do us play iTunes through there… That sucks!

livingroom.jpgEnter Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba Software… Just the solution I was looking for! What it does is hijack any audio stream from any application you choose and send it through the air to your AirTunes receiver. As an added bonus, if you have multiple Express boxes, you can stream to all of them at the same time. My quest is over and I’m totally diggin’ Airfoil. Thanks guys! (note: you don’t need hijack to run airfoil, it’s just another piece of cool software from the amoeba)

P.S. add me as a friend if you’re on last.fm

Those guys make GREAT products–we use their other product, Audio Hijack Pro, to record our Podcast, the Tuesday Night Tech show. I haven’t tried Airfoil yet, though.

AirFoil has had significant bugs in the past, including some that crashed the whole mac until AirFoil was removed. They also will not budge from their overpriced asking price of $25.00. For what it does, and the amount of code involved, this is significantly overpriced and should be around $5.00.

Further, they are a software release from losing their market base, as Apple will start allowing any audio to stream straight from the OS without having to go through iTunes.
