Can someone be pissed and excited at the same time?

I submit that you can and that the latter is way more important than the former. Or at least that’s what the folks over at Apple must be thinking. Imagine this: Somewhere in the last 66 days, in the midst of an Apple board meeting, suddenly bursts an unshaven, sleep-deprived tech dude, screeching to a halt from his recent sprint. Breathing heavy, he shouts aloud, “I made a touch-faced iPod with WiFi and I redesigned the classic iPods again. This time I crammed a HUGE hard drive in there!” The room is filled with massive jubilation and glee. Then in the mix of all the unbridled excitement some “semi-jealous for not thinking of the idea” executive, intoxicated by the sudden burst of amusement, must have said, “Hey! I have an idea! Let’s knock 200 bucks off the price of the iPhone, that will be super fun!” Then, yet another emotionally charged executive jumps on the phone and says, “Run Steve! Run! Off to the September keynote with you… Run like the wind!” And off he skips in glee…

Best I can figure, that’s just about what happened and the result has been today’s mix of emotions across the net that would rival those of a woman bearing her first child. Everywhere I went, I saw excited banter about the “Sweet New iPods” and a flurry of pissed off posts from the early iPhone adopters who have suddenly realized that most of them have just lost $200 of their hard earned money. Honestly, the price drop does kinda suck and I can totally feel for the ones that have been victimized by it’s harsh sting. However, on the other hand, these new iPods are freaking cool! At this point, I can only speculate as I decided not to jump on the bandwagon, however tempting it was at the time. If I did though, I would have probably been pissed for a bit and then felt the warm embrace of the newly crafted iPods. Then wanted to get the iPod Touch and wondered what I would do with it since I already had an iPhone. Sure, more HD space is nice, but a phone… which is more important? This tangled web Apple weaves is both cruel and exciting at the same time. What is one with an Apple addiction to do? Will I ever be able to save money again?

You didn’t ask for my opinion, but here it is anyway:

I have wanted an iPhone like mad but I think I feel pretty good about myself now for waiting to buy one. I do wish my 60gb iPod was a little worse for the wear so I could add that into the mix, but I think I will take a lesson from the iPhone incident and wait a bit on these new iPods as well. Now, with the recent price drop on the iPhone, it really makes the temptation all the greater and I don’t think I will be holding out much longer. (Did I mention I have been wanting one like mad?) As for the other, my thought is to wait and see how these new iPods pan out and if things settle nicely, I’ll be looking to get one of those soon. Maybe there’s a Bluetooth sync-able iPod Touch in the near future. Whatever happens, one thing I know for sure, I won’t be buying one within the next 66 days, just to be safe.

That’s how I roll, What’s your take?
