Slightly Intrigued by the MacPack

The MacPack touts $288.86 worth of Mac software for $30 (starting today, after today, it goes up $5 every app they add). I am familiar with the MacHeist idea and quite frankly, I think it’s brilliant! My applause to the inventors of the idea (whoever thought of it first). However, I’m not sure though about The Mac Pack, I’ll give it a try and see what happens. My hesitancy could just be because I’m not much of a gambler and I didn’t get on the MacHeist train when it departed so this is my first Mac bundle attempt. I’ll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Nevertheless, here’s the quick and dirty (taken from MacPack.com):

TheMacPak contains 10 award winning games and applications. But we’re not showing you what they are just yet. The total value of the bundle is $288.86, and all the apps are full versions. No stupid loopholes here.

We’ve revealed 1 of the 10 apps and games so far to the left. We’ll reveal a new one every few days, but be warned, every time we reveal a new app, the price of the bundle goes up by $5.00. The price will go as high as $75. Buy soon, and save.

This sparks a few uneducated thoughts in my mind:

  • Is it a gamble? Yes, actually, but 10 apps for $30 isn’t a bad deal in any language.
  • My only hope is the software is at least somewhat useful.
  • Am I signing up for a spam list? I have no idea!
  • Why does the website look so ugly? No clue!

This just goes to show how much I don’t know about this stuff. Maybe a MackPack-ite will stop by here @ iBAM and shed some light on the subject. We’ll see… For now, votes and comments are all I ask.

I totally agree with your points, they claim that huge figure for the cost of the software, but really it could just be some overpriced, poorly coded software that you will never use that is bumping the total up.

If the software offered is anywhere near the quality of the MacPack website I wouldn’t be suprised. MacPack for me? No way.

PS: If you check their forum, there has already been problems!
